CANYONLANDS AND TOWERHOUSE HOUSING

Telluride, CO
Spread across two parcels and three lots, this project delivers 28 affordable housing units along with 3 market-rate townhomes, which serve as a funding mechanism for the development.
The primary affordable housing units are located along Colorado Boulevard, Telluride’s main street, at the town’s entry point, just west of the Historic Overlay Zone. This prominent location required a sensitive and context-aware design approach.
The larger of the two buildings contains 20 units and takes advantage of the site’s slope to include a full podium level of parking below. A shared podium parking strategy was also implemented beneath the townhomes, enabling feasible density for the smaller portion of the site, known as the Towerhouse site.
KEO led the architectural design with a contextual approach, facilitating a smooth review and approval process through the Historic Architectural Review Committee (HARC) during both schematic design and design development phases.
