Canyonlands & Towerhouse Affordable Housing in Telluride was comprehensively redesigned by KEO studioworks after an unsuccessful eight-month design and approval effort. Through a collaborative six-month process, the four-building, three-parcel development ultimately received project approval.
Spanning two sites and three parcels, the development provides 28 affordable housing units and three market-rate townhomes that help finance the project.
Located at Telluride's western gateway along Colorado Boulevard, just outside the Historic Overlay Zone, the primary affordable housing building Canyonlands, required a context-sensitive response. We used the site's natural grade to incorporate podium parking beneath 20 residential units.
The Towerhouse Condos, also on Colorado Boulevard, provide smaller, for-sale affordable units that create an appropriate transition to the adjacent historic neighborhood.
The market-rate townhomes' location and design maximize mountain views and enhance the value of the market-rate homes. This building was developed with a podium strategy beneath, supporting efficient density and project feasibility.
