North Star Residence

Jim served as the design and project lead for this 10,000-square-foot residence situated on a narrow hillside site overlooking Aspen Mountain just east of downtown. The home’s elongated plan is carefully oriented along the east–west axis, allowing each primary living space to engage the expansive southern views while maximizing natural light and connection to the landscape.

The residence is stepped into the hillside to align the arrival sequence with the site topography, providing direct north-side entry access to the main living spaces and primary suite, while the lower level opens seamlessly to the lawn, pool terrace, and spa. This sectional approach reinforces the relationship between architecture and terrain, creating a layered progression between interior spaces and the surrounding environment.

Composed of stone, glass, and expressive roof forms extending toward the mountain views, the architecture balances openness and shelter. The design emphasizes plan orientation, framed sightlines, and a deliberate dialogue between architecture, topography, and the experience of place.
